SPRING RENOVATIONS & FENG SHUI - ENERGY WORK, THAT WORKS!

I took a moment to interview Susan Chan of Feng Shui Creative in NYC on how her craft can transform any apartment in NYC. Susan is a colleague of mine at Elegran, and a bundle of creativity when it comes to changing the flow of light, air, and energy in even the tiniest spaces in NYC. Now more than ever I have been. reaching out to her for her expertise as we are all fed up with the spaces we’ve been forced to quarantine in and are looking for inspiration to remove any stagnant energy. She’s been featured on Oprah too!

  • What does a Feng Shui consultant do to assess a home?

When I evaluate a space, I ask for several things - the address, the floor plan, who will be living there and their dates of birth to calculate their Chinese astrology. Not all consultants take into consideration Chinese astrology, but I find that it's very powerful for my clients in deciding which home to choose and how to set it up for their goals in life.

Once I have this information, I analyze and prepare for the in-person or remote consultation. We will walk through the space together and review Feng Shui suggestions and improvements which may include moving or adding furniture but can be very small tweaks that can make a huge impact.

  • Are there any points of reference they look for?

Location, location, location! This pertains not only to the land, building, location of the unit in the complex but also the location of the rooms of the home, location of windows, doors, electrical and plumbing. For example, having a home where the bedrooms are deeper inside the home is considered more favorable than one whose bedrooms are more towards the front of the home.

  • What do colors invoke and how do you pick the color schemes for a client?

Colors in Feng Shui are linked to the 5 elements in Chinese metaphysics - Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood. Depending on what I determine a person and a space needs, I will suggest colors to help balance out the elements. Having an equal amount of each element is ideal.

  • What are pivotal times in everyone's live they should have a fresh change and consultant? From single, to married, to baby, to career change?

As I always say, using Feng Shui earlier in any process is better than using it only when you have an issue. Which means you can use it any time! Here are some life events where Feng Shui can be particularly beneficial: If you are:

  • Buying a home - have a Feng Shui consultant look at floor plans and landforms for you.

  • Selling a home - use Feng Shui to create an energy that will attract as many buyers and possible

  • Building a new home - get advice on the right land and create a space from ground up that will nurture those using the space while also bringing harmony and opportunities into your life.

  • Getting married - use Feng Shui to create harmony, understanding and a supportive space for your new relationship.

  • Expecting a baby - use Feng Shui to ensure that the space is nurturing and calm.

  • Getting a divorce or are newly divorced - make sure to completely and properly end one cycle before starting a new one. Create a vision of what you want your current life to look like.

  • Thinking of a career change - be very clear on your direction and know what you will be looking to create.

  • Improving your health and wellness - choose a space that will nurture your health and balance elements to be sure that your Qi or life force is strong.

Remember, Feng Shui is not a Luxury but a Necessity.

Susan uses the power of Feng Shui and space energetics to show you a map of where your energy is blocked then lays out a fun, doable plan to help you bring flow again. Her clients have exponentially grown their businesses, manifested dream homes, attracted The One and created optimal health for themselves.

There’s nothing you can’t create when you have the energy of your space on your side.

Susan came to this work through personal experience. After becoming a successful art director and then moving to an apartment that made her feel stuck and stagnant, she implemented some Feng Shui principles that made her life instantly flow again. To the order of expanding into a Manhattan design studio and hiring employees!

She’s passionate about working with people who want to create greatness in their lives but whose spaces are unknowingly holding them back.
